FAQ

Please, please  contact me if you find broken links or you are experiencing problems with my files!

My creations are often recolours of EA's meshes that are already in the game. Sometimes I use meshes from other creators. In most cases I will include their meshes in the zip. If I am unable to do this because of restrictions by the mesh creator I will put a clear link to the mesh you require. There is always a read me file in the zip to tell you which recolours goes with which expansion, and which meshes you will need, if any. If you have requests and you'd like me to recolour something specific please send me an e-mail. I might do it, or I might not, depending. But at least you asked :)

My downloads are always tested in my own game before I put them on the web site. However,  all downloading and use of other peoples files is at your own risk.  If you experience any problems, or have questions that the read me file doesn't answer please contact me.

Do not add any of my downloads to other sites without my permission. No hotlinking permitted.

To use the recolors you'll need to download and install CEP. All the information and the download files can be found here:

CEP Thread at MTS2

CEP files should be place directly into your downloads folder.

As stated by Numenor @ MTS2

What is the CEP? What's its purpose?

The CEP enables colour options for many objects that Maxis shipped in only one colour (e.g. the potty chair, the exercise machines, the photo boot); the CEP also enables colour options for a second part of the object, when Maxis offered only one recolourable part (e.g. the books of the bookcases, the ampli for the guitar, the marble base and the exterior of the coffin). Once installed the CEP, you'll be able to create additional recolours for those objects, or use recolours created by other users.

***Be sure to close The Sims 2 Game, Bodyshop and Homecrafter before installing our custom content***

The downloaded files will be packed in a zipped  folder:

so you'll need to unzip these first.  Your computer might already have a program for unzipping files,  or you can use one of the following.

WinZip    30 day free trial.  Note: If using winzip, please make sure the "use folder names" is not checked while unzipping.

WinRar    30 day free trial.

ALZip      freeware

Once you've unzipped the files, you'll need to determine what type of files you have and where to put them.

.package
package files are read by the game and can be placed directly into your downloads folder. (My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads) If you do not have a downloads folder, you may create one. Some of these files may be put into subfolders, some may not. Please refer to the following lists made available by MTS2:

Note: If you have Nightlife, you may put everything into subfolders.

If you don't:

May be in subfolders:
Floors
Walls
Recolored Objects
New Object Meshes
Hacks
Hacked Objects
Custom Careers
Clothing and Genetics Base MESHES (just the base mesh, not the recolors)

May not be in subfolders:
Sims
Skins
Eyes
Eyebrows
Glasses
Beards, Stubble
Hair
Clothing
or any RECOLORS

If you prefer, you may put your clothing and genetics into your Saved Sims folder instead of your downloads folder.

.Sims2pack
Houses (Residential or Community), Walls, Floors, Sims, Clothing and Genetics may all appear as Sims2pack files.

There are two ways to handle Sims2pack files:

First:

These files can be installed automatically by The Sims 2 Installer. Double click the sims2pack and you will be asked if you wish to install the custom content. Click yes, and The Sims 2 will automatically install this for you.

Houses will be installed to your teleport folder and then moved to your houses bin when you start the game. Everything else will be installed to your downloads folder.

My houses might have custom made walls and floors but will not have furniture apart from maybe a few bits to show the intention of the room layout.

Other files that you may or may not find in a zip file:

.txt
.html
.doc
These are read me files or thank you documents. They contain additional information about the download. They may note which expansion pack is necessary to use the set, where to find additional meshes if necessary and any instructions as to sharing or reposting policies of the artist. I recommend reading them as they are often very short and very informative. These files are not used by the game and may be deleted once read.

.jpg
These files are pictures. Most likely a picture that shows what items are included in that set. I sometimes use these to copy the room set up in my game or to check that all the items were downloaded into my game. These files are not used by the game and may be deleted.

Once you have unzipped and moved all the files into the correct folders, you may archive or delete the zip files. You may also delete or archive the sims2pack files once they have been installed.

I often use cheats to place my furniture:

Ctrl+ Shift+ C to open the cheatbox

Moveobjects on/off:
Boolprop allow45DegreeAngleOfRotation true/false .

Use arrows to move the furniture to an angle,  Some might have to use  comma and punctuation mark to move the furniture at an angle.
( I have a norwegian keyboard so I have to do that  :)  )

Boolprop snapobjectstogrid false/true. This one places the furniture out of the grid.

It is advisable to turn the cheats off again after youv've placed your furniture.
